In Kenya and Rwanda, we are pleased to offer Covid-19 testing arrangements for our guests to make life easier while on safari!
MASAI MARA, KENYA
For exiting Kenya, guests must take and produce a negative Covid-19 test to board their flight if that is the requirement of their destination country.
With a qualified medical doctor stationed in the Masai Mara as part of our staff, at Governors’ we are uniquely positioned to organise in-camp PCR testing for our Masai Mara guests, meaning extra nights in Nairobi at the end of a safari may not be necessary.
The logistics of testing are key, as there are strict testing protocols to be met as well as meeting the test- ing timeframe requirements for Kenya and our guests’ resident countries. Testing kits are obtained from our partner labs in Nairobi, sampling is conducted by our in-house Doctor, and the samples are then transported back to Nairobi by plane where possible. If a plane is not available, then the samples are transferred by road to ensure it meets the 24hr window of sample delivery to the lab.
While making your booking with us, we’ll work with you to plan around the timeframe requirements and your itinerary.
The total costing of the tests will be based on the final transport requirements of the samples. Each test kit is $150, and if a plane is not available, then the transfer by road is $300 per vehicle.
Results are received via email, as a digital and printable certificate, and via SMS, and will be certified with the new Trusted Traveller Certification Code required by Kenyan health authorities.
We have established relationships with several authorised laboratories and operators offering PCR-testing, with services such as 24hr turnaround for results, and/or hotel-based sample collection. Please discuss your itinerary and testing requirements with your consultant at the time of booking.
We’re pleased to be able to offer the convenience of in-lodge PCR-testing for guests during their stay at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge. A doctor from a government-approved clinic in the nearby town of Musanze can be organised to visit the lodge for sample taking. A window of 48hrs is advised for receiving results.
There are several government requirements for travelling safely in Rwanda, for instance:
Any guest visiting Akagera National Park or Nyungwe National Park requires a valid test taken within 72hrs to arrival at that destination.
These requirements are subject to some change. Your consultant will discuss the latest requirements and your testing needs during the booking process. We are pleased to offer our guests this unique service, helping to bring you on safari with us!
