A luxury private villa offering endless views towards Mt. Kenya and across the Laikipia expanse. This property can only be booked on an ‘exclusive use’ basis for a maximum of six guests.
Perched on a panoramic clifftop, on the northern end of the iconic Laikipia plateau, sits Mutamaiyu House; a beautiful private home offering magnificent views across a 49,000 acre working ranch and wildlife conservancy. This is the exclusive home of the Hahn family, the owners of Mugie Conservancy, within which the property is located.
Game drives are on Mugie, a pristine wilderness that is actively protecting natural habitats for some of Kenya’s key endemic species whose populations are all ‘at risk’. Guests can enjoy sightings of The Mugie Five; a small collection of northern rangeland animals that cannot be seen at any of our other properties, in total privacy and seclusion.
A main house comprises a grand dining room, spacious lounge area with a roaring log fire in the evenings and one en-suite bedroom. Separate to the main house are two self-contained suites and and a pool house with a large veranda.
Mutamaiyu House offers a diverse range of activities, in particular a ‘behind the scenes’ safari experience whereby guests can observe vital conservation work such as lion tracking and visits to the anti poaching unit to meet the bloodhounds and their handlers.
Blending into the rock-hewn hillside and surrounded by ancient twisted olive trees, Mutamaiyu House could easily be described as ‘Heaven on Earth’.
Please note that Mutamaiyu House can only be booked on an exclusive use basis, for a maximum of six guests. The minimum age for children at Mutamaiyu is eight years old.
Mutamaiyu House is Covid-Compliant, for more details click HERE.
Mutamaiyu House is located in the northern end of Mugie Conservancy, a private wildlife conservancy in Laikipia of almost 50’000 acres hosting an array of impactful community and conservation programs.
The Conservancy is at the forefront of conservation, operating as a low-impact cattle ranch alongside preserving the delicate and productive eco-systems that host abundant wildlife. Cutting edge community grazing programs and community empowerment projects through micro-economic assistance have encouraged engagement and investment from the local community in the conservation goals of Mugie.
There are five species living on the conservancy which guests of Mutamaiyu House and Governors’ Mugie House won’t find at any of the other Governors’ properties. Each is perfectly adapted for a life in more drought-prone regions and each needs special conservation efforts to ensure their long-term survival in the wild as all of their global populations are currently listed as ‘endangered’, or in the case of the striped hyena, ‘near threatened’. Mutamaiyu House does not have a spa room, but treatments can be done from the comfort and privacy of your spacious room. We have a fully trained spa therapist who will ensure you are well pampered while you are with us. Please take a look at our spa menu and book through the manager once you are here. All spa treatments are included in the nightly rate for Mutamaiyu House.
Guests can make the most of Mugie Conservancy’s nine-hole golf course, which is perfect for enjoying a round between travel companions or alongside other golf-loving guests of ours.
Traditional (day and night) game drives with a dedicated, highly qualified and experienced guide are available daily.
