June at Mfangano Island Camp

June has been a busy and exciting month at Mfangano. The camp has been very busy with extending the jetty, rebuilding the boats, and work is continuing apace in our Permaculture gardens. We have big harvests of vegetables and the chefs have been getting creative in the kitchens with all this fresh produce, we installed our first beehives and our aquaponics system is taking off with 300 Tilapia fingerlings just introduced to the farm.

June in the Masai Mara

June has seen the arrival of the first of the herds from the big annual Wildebeest migration into the southern reaches of the Masai Mara. Our guests have seen the first glimpses of them on full day game drives. The River Crossings have begun and we expect the big herds to begin to arrive in our area from mid July. Lovely herds of elephant are out on the plains feeding and there are cubs in all the lion prides. We have had fabulous cheetah sightings including 8 different cheetah seen on one game drive.

May at Mfangano Island Camp

Mfangano has reopened for the season and the camp is a buzz with activity. We have done some work on the rooms and the permaculture gardens are flourishing, producing good quantities for the camp kitchens and many of our staff have carried these permaculture ideas home. The local school we support now also has a productive permaculture garden and together with help from our guests we have built them a kitchen.

May at Loldia House

Rain has finally arrived at Loldia, cause for much celebration. There have been some small changes at the house and work on the top cottage has been completed. Guests have been enjoying great night game drives, with sightings of leopard, aardvark and hyena and enjoyable days out. We have been serenaded in the evenings by a guest who took our beautiful piano through its paces.
