Why we love December in the Masai Mara.

December brings warm days with scattered rain showers, the grasses on the plains green and everywhere you look there are young and for the antelope the rutting season begins. With the wildebeest gone families of elephant return in numbers to the forests around our camps. Large clans of hyena roam the plains, there are cubs in the lion prides and the migratory birds are back from Europe, feeding nesting and breeding in the Marsh.

November at Loldia House

Loldia has had some lovely wildlife sightings this month including a rare Caracal which was seen inside our garden fence one evening. Night game drives on the ranch have revealed leopards and aardvarks and there have been plenty of wonderful day trips to Lake Nakuru National Park. The Supermoon rising over Lake Naivasha was a highlight of the month and we have seen the arrival of the first migrant birds from Europe and Asia.

November at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Rainy season has arrived in Rwanda, and with it wild flowers are blooming in the lodge grounds, bringing in an abundance of birdlife. New bamboo shoots are growing in the forests drawing the gorilla families down the slopes to feed on their favourite delicacy and get a little drunk in the process. Jess and Oliver take a memorable trip to the twin lakes and the genocide memorial and they bid a fond farewell to the Sabyinyo team as they return to Kenya.
