June at Loldia House

Loldia ranch is looking lovely and green. There is plenty of plains game on the ranch and lots of young around. Birding has been great with the pair of Verreax Eagle Owls still frequenting the lodge gardens and a new visitor the Golden Sunbird, not normally seen in these parts. The house has been undergoing some renovation work and is looking great and our guests have enjoyed great days out at Lake Nakuru National Park.

June Game Report Masai Mara

June in the Masai Mara was marked by spectacular sunrises, the rains returned towards the end of the month filling up the Marsh. The first herds from the wildebeest migration began to arrive with around 100,000 wildebeest and zebra crossing the Sand River and fanning out on the surrounding plains. Big herds of elephant roamed the plains and we had lovely sightings of Leopard Romi and her cub and all the resident cheetah families.

The seasons are turning and the clouds are lifting giving glorious views of the volcanoes and beautiful starry nights. There has been lots of bird and wildlife seen in the lodge grounds including a golden monkey and African Harrier Hawk. Alisa and Leonard took a trip to the local schools to talk to the children about tourism. The lodge community association donates 60 cows and 6 new houses to the community. Thor and Alisa explore the kayaking on Lake Kivu and they take a trek to see the Isabukuru family with their two tiny twin gorilla babies.
