March at Loldia House

Loldia had a very busy Easter, every bed in the Lodge was taken and we had to add a few extra too! We were thankful to welcome back our wonderful chef Ndegwa who came back from retirement to lend a hand. Our new access road has been given the go ahead which will cut travel times to and from the lodge greatly. On the ranch we have had lots of lovely plains game and guests have been enjoying some wonderful day trips to Lake Nakuru National Park, Lake Ol Oldian and Crater Lake.

March Game Report Masai Mara

March was marked by hot and sometimes humid days. As the Warburgia Trees stopped fruiting so the families of elephant moved about more and we still had lovely sightings of them in the Musiara Marsh close to our camps. The Loita migration also arrived on the plains around our camps with huge herds numbering close to 100,000 zebras and some wildebeest covering the plains. Everywhere you look there seem to be lion, the Marsh Pride males have returned taking up residence on Paradise Plains, the breakaway females have also returned from across the river and the two new males Blackie and Lipstick have also set up home with another of the breakaway Marsh Prides. Our guests have also enjoyed wonderful sightings of Leopard and Cheetah over the last month.

March at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

With Thor and Alisa away on leave, releif manager Mike has been looking after Sabyinyo for the last month. The weather has been warm with some late afternoon rain showers. There was a new baby gorilla born to the Sabyinyo Gorilla family and our guests have had some lovely sightings of this new tiny gorilla. Our guests have also been really enjoying the treks to see The Hirwa Gorilla who have a particularly playful set of twins. Mike also goes through how the gorilla treks work.

February Wildlife News Masai Mara

The savannah grasses have begun to grow very long over the last month. The zebra from the first of our annual migrations, the Loita migration have begun to arrive in large numbers on the plains of the Masai Mara. Whilst the grasses are long and sightings can be tricky, Governors guides continue to excel, with over 21 different lion seen one day in less than an hours drive from camp. Big families of Elephant dominate the plains and with the Warburgia Trees still in full fruit, they have been frequent visitors to the forests around our camps.

February News Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Over the last month all the team at Sabyinyo have been working hard doing upgrades on the lodge and the whole place is looking great, lighter and brighter. A Golden Monkey has been making daily visits to the bamboo and eucalyptus trees around the lodge. We have been harvesting honey from our lodge beehives and guests have been enjoying home harvested organic honey. The community dancers have been putting on wonderful performances for our guests. And there have been some pretty exciting Gorilla Treks too. Alisa went off to visit the Amohoro family and found them in high spirits putting on quite a show!
