April in the Masai Mara

With rainy season in full swing the Mara River rose, the Marsh and waterways all filled up and the Mara is looking lovely and green. The resident zebra and wildebeest have been moving all around the reserve and into the neighbouring conservation areas. Elephant families have made a return to the marsh and grasslands and the lions have been ambushing zebra and wildebeest as they exit the Mara River.

April at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

April is a significant month in Rwanda as it is the genocide memorial month and Rwandans gather to remember the genocide and help those who are still affected by its aftermath. It is also rainy season and on the slopes of the Volcanoes the bamboo grows masses of new shoots a particular favourite amongst the gorillas who move lower down the slopes to feast on this delicacy. This means treks to see the gorillas are shorter and access to see them is generally easier at this time of year. It is also a great time to visit Lake Kivu.

April at Loldia House

Rain has finally arrived at Loldia and the ranch has turned green. The resident game is happily grazing all the new green shoots. We have had some great leopard sightings including one leopard digging a hyrax out on the lower lake road. With the changing of the seasons many impala have been born and the staff at Loldia have been stretching their legs with a football game.
